The USAC Non-Wing sprint cars were hot lapping for nearly 40 minutes on Friday night, trying to get the track race-ready to get Night 1 of #LetsRaceTwo in for the fans at Eldora Speedway.
Despite their efforts, they came back out to run on Saturday to make up the show while the sun was still up, but Tyler Courtney – the driver dubbed ‘Sunshine’ – made sure to spoil the afternoon.
The driver of the No. 7BC made his return to the Non-Wing series after beginning his first full season of winged racing at the start of 2021.
“We’ve got something figured out when it comes to this place, but we’ve still got another race to go,” Courtney said on the DirtVision broadcast. “Track’s a little tricky right now, but we’ll see what we can do from there.”
He lead all 30 of the laps in the feature event, and lapped up to sixth place on his way to the victory.
The win was Courtney’s fifth-straight USAC Sprint Car win at Eldora dating back to the better part of the last decade.
“You always want to beat everybody,” Courtney said on the broadcast. “I never thought I’d win won race here let alone five in a row. It’s incredible.”
Robert Ballou – who had an amount of choice words for the winged drivers across the garage – and Jadon Rogers rounded out the podium behind Courtney.
The established, big three drivers at the top of the standings all ended things within two spots of each other as Justin Grant, Brady Bacon, and Kevin Thomas Jr. ended up with top 10 finishes.
Although, even Thomas Jr. got lapped by Courtney, who left no doubt at who would be the best driver on the track for the first of four features today.
The USAC Non-Winged cars return to the track tonight at Eldora after a brief intermission to work on the track. As always all of the USAC content can be seen live on FloRacing.
