Will the Posse be shut out again in 2021?

Last season, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car series raced in the state of Pennsylvania nine times. A full-time Outlaws driver won each of them.

The ‘Pennsylvania Posse’ was shut out from a win against the national touring series for the first time since 2008, in what has become a yearly rivalry in the sport.

The World of Outlaws’ official twitter account, ran by Brian Walker had a little fun with it as well.

Now, with one of the most stacked World of Outlaws fields in recent memory, the 15-driver, full-time roster will attempt to shutout the posse again. The first night of a three-race stretch starts on Wednesday night with the Gettysburg Clash at Lincoln Speedway.

Aside from the Pennsylvania locals, the national storylines are heating up.

Three weeks ago, David Gravel swept the action at Bristol and closed the gap on defending champion Brad Sweet’s points lead to just 60 points – 30 positions on the track.

Sweet countered by winning three races in a row between Jacksonville’s bullring and the half-mile oval at I-70 Motorsports Park. He built his lead on the field back up, but after consecutive finishes outside of the top 10, Gravel is right back where he left Bristol, at 62 points back.

That could spell trouble for Sweet. As seen last summer, the Kasey Kahne No. 49 team can be streaky. When things are going good, it couldn’t get any better. On the flip side is just the opposite.

In 2020, the team had three finishes outside the top 20 in a row at one point. That helped Logan Schuchart crawl back into the race for the title.

Speaking of Schuchart, him along with his Shark Racing teammate Jacob Allen and rookie of the year contender Brock Zearfoss will be competing on behalf the Outlaws despite their Pennsylvania roots.

If anyone on tour can claim the tracks around PA, it’s those guys.

However, that’s not to they’ll be the favorites coming in.

Sheldon Haudenschild won the Outlaws’ loan race at Lincoln in 2020 and has already reached a trio of wins this season. He’s coming off of his first win at Eldora in his career last weekend.

As for Williams Grove, David Gravel captured two wins there a season ago and 2020 National Open winner Donny Schatz is still vying for his 300th career World of Outlaws win.

The Outlaws field has had a lot of recent success in PA, but will it continue this season?

2019 National Open winner Brent Marks is coming off of a win at Eldora’s #LetsRaceTwo opener, as long as he can qualify well, look for him to be a threat.

Lance Dewease and Lucas Wolfe will look to maintain strong starts to the season and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the up-and-comer Anthony Macri.

Whether the Outlaws can play spoiler in PA or the Posse returns to the form local fans talk about will be answered in time.

We’ll see the first chapter on Wednesday with the 2021 Gettysburg Clash at Lincoln. As always, all of the action can be televised live on DirtVision.com.
