Austin McCarl is back at Knoxville.
After a stint of racing outside of the state of Iowa, the Altoona native and Country Builders Racing announced on Tuesday that he would be returning to the Midwest full-time in 2022.
Thanks to the addition of Huset’s Speedway to the standard racing weekend close to home, McCarl will spend the 2022 season at Knoxville and Huset’s in the Country Builders No. 88 car.
“I am appreciative of the opportunity the Offill family gave me both as a sprint car driver and mechanic in 2021,” McCarl said in a release. “We gained a lot together as a new team, and I felt as though we were just getting started as our season came to an end. I look forward to building on that momentum in the year to come.”
McCarl captured an amount of wins at Huset’s Speedway in 2021 including a second-place finish with the World of Outlaws at the track at the August race there.
He’ll look to build on that as well as his 2018 Knoxville Raceway championship in the season ahead.
“Myself and the Offill boys are not only excited to have the No. 88 car back in the Midwest, but to also chase two track championships,” Weldon Offill said. “Country Builders Racing has full confidence that the 2018 Knoxville Raceway track champion and 10-time Huset’s Speedway winner will be a great asset to our team in 2022.”
Knoxville Raceway will open the season on April 16, 2022 while Huset’s will hold its first race in May. Each track can be seen live through DirtVision.com.
