Brian Brown picks up second win of the year at Knoxville
Brian Brown celebrates his 59th career win at Knoxville

Brian Brown earned his second win of the 2022 season at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday and even got a bump on the way there from competitor Aaron Reutzel.

The No. 21 car was leading the race just past the halfway mark when the largest run of the night off of turn 4 from Reutzel resulted in a bump-draft like sequence, keeping Brown in the lead.

“I didn’t feel like we were really great that whole feature,” Brown said in Victory Lane. “I got working with my wing. We had a motto this week, ‘Whatever it takes.’ Lynton and Aaron did a phenomenal job. I had to slide them there and just try to block the line. They’re probably upset with me, but we’re here to win. It’s an honor to drive this car.”

The win gives Brown 58 career victories at Knoxville as he tries for another track championship in 2022.

Although Reutzel was never able to catch Brown for the win, the No. 8 car powered by a Toyota Racing Development engine podiumed in all three of its races on the night.

The Clute, Texas native earned the win in the make-up race from the postponed April event that ended the night.

“This feels good,” Reutzel said in victory lane. “I felt like we were a little behind the eight-ball with the cars. We had a good shot to win all three of them, and were a little behind all night. The track was really good for the 410 A main, and really, really good for the second 360 main. This was a technical track, and hard to run the top. It was treacherous. I about fenced her a couple of times. I just had a blast all night. I love racing here. I’m having more fun this year than I’ve ever had. To stay at home is a lot of fun, and I’m glad to finally get a win for them here.”

Clint Garner captured the regularly scheduled 360 race on the night, powering to another win over Terry McCarl in what is setting up to be a high-powered rivalry yet again.

Scotty Johnson returned to victory lane as well, capturing his second career win a week after earning his first in the PACE Pro division.

The series will return to action next Saturday, May 21 for another night of action for all three classes. The events can be streamed live on DirtVision all summer as the season rolls on at Knoxville.
