The Hy-Vee Iowa IndyCar doubleheader weekend marked the return of the NTT IndyCar Series to the 7/8th-mile race track in Newton.
After the effort of primary sponsor Hy-Vee drew big name concerts, other presenting sponsors and a plethora of race fans, it appeared like any doubts of the track surviving could be silenced.
That’s when Penske Corporation president Bud Denker came over the microphone at driver intros to announce the series would race at Iowa Speedway in 2023, 2024 and 2025 to fans in attendance Sunday.
No other details were announced for the series’ future visits to Iowa Speedway, but expect the event to remain a doubleheader weekend until the series hammers down more oval courses to race at – a goal that Roger Penske has had since taking over.
