Landon Cassill is going superspeedway racing again.

That’s good news for you longshot bettors that want to strike gold this Saturday night.

The Cedar Rapids native will be taking the reigns of the No. 96 Gaunt Brothers Racing car that Ty Dillon ran in during the Daytona 500.

With sponsorship from Carnomaly, who bills themselves as the world’s leading automotive crypto-currency company, Cassill will race both the regular season finale at Daytona (Sat. 6:00 p.m. CT NBC) and the NASCAR Playoff race at Talladega later this fall.

“I’m proud to bring Carnomaly into the sport and into the NASCAR Cup Series,” Cassill said in a release. “They’ve been a great partner of mine and eRacr, which is the esports arm of what I do with Parker Kligerman. We put on big events on iRacing and Carnomaly was the sponsor of an event earlier this year called the Carnomaly 500, which was at Daytona on iRacing. I’m really looking forward to bringing Carnomaly to real racetracks at Daytona and Talladega with Gaunt Brothers Racing.”

Cassill is no stranger to success with smaller teams at superspeedways.

He lead laps in the Circle Sport No. 40 car at both Daytona and Talladega, and even recorded a fourth-place finish in 2014, prompting perhaps his biggest fan to get a tattoo in celebration of the top five.

“I’m incredibly excited about the partnership with Landon Cassill and Gaunt Brothers Racing,” Carnomaly Founder and CEO Scott Heninger said. “Landon is at the forefront of cryptocurrency’s use in the auto racing industry. He’s the perfect partner to team up with on this endeavor in order to further revolutionize the auto finance industry and expand our consumer base.”

Although the No. 96 car didn’t qualify for the 2021 Daytona 500 – the car still showed power.

Dillon brought the Toyota Camry home in sixth in his Daytona Duel race, but due to charter issues, did not qualify for the event.

The team hopes Cassill can bring the same scrappiness he’s shown over his career.

“Landon and I have often talked about finding a way to work together. He’s a scrappy, determined racer and I’m thrilled to finally have him in our racecar,” Gaunt Brothers Racing President Marty Gaunt said. “Daytona and Talladega are two tracks where it’s supremely important to stay out of trouble and be there at the end for any chance at success, and that’s one of Landon’s strong suits. Being able to bring Landon back to the Cup Series while introducing Carnomaly to our sport is something we take a lot of pride in.”

Cassill will look to drive the car through the field and make some more magic happen on Saturday night during the NASCAR Cup Series regular season finale at Daytona International Speedway. The broadcast is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CT on NBC.
