Sammy Smith, a 17-year old from Johnston, has captured the 2021 ARCA East Series championship for the famed Joe Gibbs Racing after finishing second on Thursday.

The young up-and-comer has seen a plethora of success this season, in both the ARCA regional tour as well as in his asphalt super late model year.

In the eight races the series ran this season, Smith finished in the top 5 seven times, with his only finish worse than fifth coming at his home track at Iowa Speedway due to an accident.

He takes home three wins in ARCA competition this year as well, not to mention a potential ride in the national tour with the Joe Gibbs Racing car that Ty Gibbs runs now.

Congratulations to an Iowa native on a strong ARCA East championship season.
