Tyler Erb back for another prelim win and some cash
Tyler Erb celebrates after winning Night 2 of the Knoxville Late Model Nationals.

Tyler Erb didn’t need to race on Friday night. He couldn’t improve his starting spot for Saturday’s feature and there’s a national tire shortage going on.

Yet, Erb went out to get the money. And he did just that.

“I’m pumped to win here,” Erb said in victory lane. “I have a great car and a great crew.  Racing is really fun when you have a great car and you can kind of maneuver.  Once I got out front, I could set my pace and I felt the longer we went green the better I’d get.”

And that was true.

Erb got a massive lead on the Brandon Sheppard and Tyler Bruening after the opening laps. It was until cautions flew at the end that Erb would feel no pressure.

“You never want to see a caution at the end like that, but we ran well enough last night that I didn’t want to commit myself to run the cushion,” Erb said.  “I could tell somebody was getting a good run on the outside and I figured it was Shepp, but if I stayed on the inside of three and drove across it was going to be hard to get by me.”

Regardless, he’s leaving with the win, his second in two nights.

Erb ended with 488 points, and will start on the front row alongside Tim McCreadie.
