It seemed like no driver could touch Conor Daly’s 173.239 MPH lap during IndyCar’s practice session Friday at Iowa, that’s until Will Power had his car on rails late in the session.
The Australia native topped Daly’s lap with a 173.285 MPH average speed to take the top spot on the day.
“Qualifying is a different deal, but we obviously had a great car,” Power said.
The Team Penske driver has earned four pole positions in his career at Iowa, but has yet to win a race at the track.
“I think it’s a great track, because of its multiple lanes,” Power said. “I think it’s my favorite oval.”
It’s the only practice session for the weekend for the series.
IndyCar will qualify its cars Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. CT before the first of two races in the weekend doubleheader. Saturday’s HyVeeDeals.com 250 will begin at 3:00 p.m. CT on NBC.
