Nothing was stopping Devin Moran from going to victory lane in the World of Outlaws CASE Late Model Series season opener at Volusia Speedway Park.

The youngster navigated his way through lapped traffic to take yet another Sunshine Nationals win to add to resume, kicking off the national touring late model season.

“You definitely have to be a little risky,” Moran said on DirtVision. “I didn’t think it would move up that much – this place is just so wild. It’s sandy from sitting all winter. We all got on the bottom and threw (the dirt) up. I found that middle when (Sheppard) got by me and was like, ‘I’ve got to start driving harder.'”

And Moran did just that, passing Bobby Pierce and Ricky Thornton Jr. on his way to the front, while holding off Brandon Sheppard to secure his first win of 2024.

Ethan Dotson started on the pole before finishing P6 after getting into the cushion moments before the caution that sent Brian Shirley out of the race.

Bobby Pierce had taken the lead before surrendering the position to Ricky Thornton Jr., but the ‘Mail-man’ in Moran was able to get by and make it to victory lane for the third time in his career at the event.

Thornton Jr. said on DirtVision that he ran out of tearoffs with around 15 laps to go, and kept the car on the bottom because of it.

“We’re going to have to keep coming out here for Sunshine Nationals,” Moran said. “It seems like I have so much success here in January.”

The series will return to the track for the $15,000-to-win, Sunshine Nationals finale on Saturday night. Hot laps are slated to start at 3:00 p.m. CT and can be seen live on DirtVision.
