Former NASCAR Truck Series champion Sheldon Creed is again expanding his portfolio.

The Alpine, Calif. native is making his USAC National Midget Series debut in August in the annual, major event BC39.

Creed will pilot a midget fielded by Abacus Racing as a teammate to 22-year-old driver Maria Cofer.

“As a team, we have been talking about running a second car for a few events this year, and what better place to make that happen than the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at the BC39 where the team had its first race last year,” Brent Cox, Team Principal for Abacus Racing, said in a release.

The event, held at The Dirt Track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, has grown into a staple of the USAC Midget schedule.

It only gets bigger when drivers with the resume of Creed throw their names into the hat.

Creed currently competes in the NASCAR Xfinity Series with Richard Childress Racing and owns championships in the NASCAR Truck, ARCA national, ARCA regional, Stadium Super Truck, and Trans Am tours.

“As a driver, I want to race as much as I possibly can and to drive anything I possibly can,” Creed said in the release. “I have always wanted to drive a midget, so I am very excited at the opportunity,”

Creed has also been racing in a micro sprint at Millbridge Speedway recently, giving him further preparation for his debut.

He will also have a test session with Abacus Racing prior to the August 3-4 event.

“I am coming here to be competitive,” Creed said in the release.  “The level of talent at this race is always very strong, from series regulars to other entrants who come to drive this race because of its significance.  I want to learn as much as I can from that test so it can translate to the event.  I want to provide all the feedback I can for myself and the team.”

Sponsorship info will be announced in the coming weeks, per the team, and the event is set to be broadcasted by FloRacing.
