Tyler Courtney found himself back in victory lane with the Tezos All-Star Circuit of Champions tour after Monday’s Ohio Sprint Speedweek race at Wayne County Speedway.
Throughout the night, a multitude of drivers brought up safety concerns with how much moisture had been retained in the racing the surface.
Despite the concerns, the A-Main ran 25 laps with only one caution, and while some cars did not make it through the night, an overwhelming majority of the field finished the race under green flag conditions.
“We just kept freeing up and freeing up,” Courtney said on the FloRacing broadcast. “I really was just hanging on to the corners but I knew I could get in a lot better than (my competitors) and not bounce. Hats off to (my crew), they worked their ass off all night.”
Courtney beat out Cap Henry for the win, but it didn’t come without the words of a driver determined to race in wake of the conditions concerns from others.
“I wish this would have been a points race, it’s unfortunate that a handful of guys were able to dictate what we did for the whole night,” Henry said. “I appreciate the fans for sticking around, I know there wasn’t a whole bunch of people, but I appreciate the ones that stuck around.”
Ohio Sprint Speedweek continues for the tour on Tuesday at Sharon Speedway. As always, all of the action can be seen live on FloRacing.
