The NASCAR All-Star Race is going to North Wilkesboro.
Set for May 21, 2023, Speedway Motorsports Inc. announced on Thursday that the once defunct and now, ‘revived’ race track will play host to the All-Star event.
The rebirth of the track has been anchored by racing’s biggest name in Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the work of RaceXR’s Barry Braun and the rest of his team.
North Wilkesboro hosted a CARS Tour asphalt late model race in which Earnhardt Jr. participated in last month, selling out the facility in what was called a magical night of short track racing.
It’s a move that resembles the NHL’s Winter Classic as well as the MLB’s Field of Dreams game, to have an official event in a unique location and in something that NASCAR has been trying to fit into a rotation of sorts.
As of 2019, the race moved away from Charlotte, where it had been held for four decades before the race saw Bristol Motor Speedway play host in 2020.
Over the past two seasons, Texas Motor Speedway held the event, due to the track losing one of its seasonal dates on the points paying schedule.
