For the second time in the same night, David Gravel made the trip to World of Outlaws victory lane to celebrate a win with the series at Volusia Speedway Park.
The Watertown, Conn. native picked up each of the A-Main’s ran on Friday, with Thursday’s being moved after rain shortened the event.
“It feels really good,” Gravel said on the Buddy was really good there. I don’t know if the caution (didn’t) come out, if I would have got to him. That bump in turns 1 and 2 is getting worse every day.”
Gravel took the lead from Buddy Kofoid after a caution came out that bunched the cars back up with 10 laps to go.
From there, it was quick and easy for the Big Game Motorsports No. 2 driver.
“What a way to start. Cody and Zach gave me a really fast car,” Gravel said on the broadcast. “I qualified like shit the second night (in a preseason race) but we passed a lot of cars. There’s a lot of people that make this deal possible.”
The win is Gravel’s 78th career victory with the World of Outlaws, which has him inching closer to the century mark.
He had a quote after the race that stood apart from the others.
“I want to get to a hundred,” Gravel said. “I don’t know, maybe we do something crazy this year.”
It’s early, but he’s certainly on pace.
The series returns to the track on Saturday, pending updates to the weather forecast and situation going forward.
