The fan favorites were battling all the way to the finish in the final night of racing at the Wild Wing Shootout at Arizona Speedway.

Although, it was Tony Stewart making the trip to victory lane at the end of the night.

The driver of the No. 14 got his first win in recent memory at the Shootout, and he was damn happy about it.

“I’ve got a great group of guys and great partners with Ford Performance,” Stewart said on the FloRacing broadcast.

Behind the No. 14 was the people’s sprint car driver.

Dominic Scelzi had one of the best races to date in his career and was giving Stewart a run for his money in the closing laps.

The California native just got into the cushion coming out of turn 2 a bit too much with three laps to go, stalling his momentum to complete the pass.

“Once I got to second, I just got greedy eyes,” Scelzi said. “I just got myself plugged into the wall. It wasn’t for a lack of effort, my car was perfect.”

Buddy Kofoid was going for a third-straight win to kick off his season, but the team had issues getting the No. 19AZ car running well all night.

So, on the third night removed from the 2020 racing season, it figures that part-time guys took down the full-time guys on Sunday.

We’ll see if things continue to be weird in 2021.
