Corey Heim sweeps ARCA superspeedways, wins Talladega

A Venturini car did it again, and it just happened to be Corey Heim parking it in victory lane once more.

The Marietta, Georgia native captured his second straight victory on superspeedway tracks picking up the W in today’s ARCA race.

“We found ourselves in the right spot,” Heim said on the Fox Sports 1 broadcast. “Drew Dollar is an amazing teammate. We worked together perfectly today.”

Heim and the rest of the Venturini Motorsports contingent had been surrounded in the lead pack – which resembled one closer to what a Cup Series race looks like a lot more than a year ago – throughout the day.

He restarted in the second row for a one-lap shootout, getting help from Dollar again as he did at Daytona earlier in the season. There’s a Talladega Nights-Cal Naughton reference to be made in there somewhere.

Heim ended crossed the finish line less than a car length in front of 65-year-old Dave Mader III, who has one career ARCA win coming at Michigan in 1991.

It matched Mader III’s best finish at the superspeedway, which came in the same season behind the late Charlie Glotzbach.

The one-lap shootout was set up by a pair of yellow flags in the back half of the race.

The first of which took out ARCA championship contender Ty Gibbs and with Heim winning the race – that points gap will be something to look out for.

The last incident involved 48-year-old Derrick Lancaster – where his car erupted in flames.

Lancaster was transported to a local hospital and his conditions are currently unknown. He was, however, able to get out of the car under his own power.

We will update this story with any updates on his condition as things progress.

ARCA will be back on track next week, as the series heads to Kansas – the site of Heim’s first career win.
