Trackhouse Racing told media members that they had a major announcement coming on Wednesday – and they didn’t disappoint.
At the NASCAR Hall of Fame on Wednesday afternoon, Trackhouse announced that it had bought Chip Ganassi and Chip Ganassi Racing out of NASCAR.
Effective at the end of the year, Chip Ganassi Racing and all of its assets will go to Trackhouse Racing, who is currently leasing a charter from Spire Motorsports for the No. 99 car driven by Daniel Suarez.
Justin Marks approached Ganassi about a deal. Before that conversation, Chip Ganassi Racing was not for sale and the famed team owner didn’t anticipate selling his team.
However, Marks’ offer was too enticing for Ganassi to turn down.
Ganassi did, however, confirm that he will not be exiting racing. He will remain a team owner in the NTT IndyCar Series and this is just the end of his venture in NASCAR.
Suarez will remain as a driver for Trackhouse in 2022 and beyond. The second driver is still to be determined.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s current charters are filled by Kurt Busch and Ross Chastain.
We will have more on this story as information becomes available.
