It was a battle for second place in the Shore Lunch 150, as Ty Gibbs dominated Saturday night to take home the victory.
The rest of the field was left to play catch up as Gibbs lead practice, grabbed the pole in qualifying, and lead the entire race on his way to his sixth ARCA Menards Series win of the season. Toward the end of the final 50 laps, Daniel Dye closed the gap as they worked through lapped traffic but stalled out about 1.5 seconds back.
“Overall I feel like we had a really good Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry,” Gibbs said. “We lacked there a little bit at the end but we had a lot of lapped traffic that got in our way. We were a little bit tighter but it was a fun time here at Iowa.”
The championship battle got tighter as Corey Heim, the points leader, needed some help from the car. Early on, Heim was the bridesmaid to Gibbs but inched off the pace and came home with a 4th place finish.
“We struggled on short runs pretty bad there,” Heim mentioned after the race. “We couldn’t fire off pretty much anywhere throughout the night and it came to us later in the run but at that point we were so far behind. We know what we have to do better next race.”
The next ARCA Menards Series race takes place at Winchester Speedway on July 31st.
