CJB Motorsports has to be pleased.

Let’s just say the 2022 World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year race got started on Saturday night.

Spencer Bayston – while driving for the team he’ll take on the World of Outlaws tour with next season – went to victory lane at Saturday’s Nittany Showdown at Port Royal Speedway.

The win is Bayston’s second of the season with the series, adding on to his Brad Doty Classic W in July.

“The first caution was really timely,” Bayston said on the broadcast. “I started stalling out and losing my momentum. I was moving my wing around a ton and (trying to get an advantage).”

Bayston only surrendered the lead once, letting Jacob Allen get a jump on him on the opening start of the 30-lap A-Main.

After that however, it was smooth sailing for the No. 5.

Bayston ended the night with a near 2-second win over series veteran David Gravel.

“Absolutely,” Bayston said on DirtVision. “We’ve been working really really hard and changing a lot of stuff. Hopefully tonight is just the start. I’m really looking forward to these next handful of races and hopefully we get a good start on next year.”

The World of Outlaws have an off-weekend next week, but will return to the track on Friday October 22 at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas.
