A.J. Allmendinger has lit the world on fire in recent years in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, reaching a final four for the first time in his career a year ago and pacing the playoff field as it rolls to Phoenix for Kaulig Racing this season.
Today, the Athletic is reporting that Allmendinger will be back in the NASCAR Cup Series full-time in 2023, driving for the same Kaulig Racing team that he has called home in that time span.
Allmendinger will be driving the No. 16 car in the Cup Series, which Kaulig fielded full-time as a car this season and also the car that he won in the premier tour in during the 2021 season.
In his two most recent full-time years behind the wheel in the Xfinity Series in 2021 and 2022, Allmendinger has collected nine wins and clinched a second-straight spot in the semifinal round with a win this weekend at Talladega.
The series will return to the track this weekend on Saturday at the Charlotte Roval with the race scheduled to kickoff at 2:00 p.m. CT on NBC.
