Dale Earnhardt Jr. revealed during a bonus episode of his podcast – the Dale Jr. Download – that his current NASCAR Xfinity Series team is looking at expanding into the Cup Series.
During the 17-minute mark of the episode, Earnhardt Jr. spoke about wanting to knab Martin Truex Jr. to help get the team started, also referencing his one-year extension with Joe Gibbs Racing.
“I was hoping that Martin (Truex Jr.) would come over here and help us start our Cup team at JR Motorsports,” Earnhardt Jr. said on the episode. “I helped him get started, so he might as well help us get started.”
The longtime NASCAR name and team owner expanded on this, saying that his team is exhausting every opportunity they can over the past year to go racing in the sanctioning body’s premier tour.
“We want to go Cup racing,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “We’re working our tails off to exhaust every opportunity. If y’all knew all of the conversations my sister Kelly (vice president of JRM) she’s had in the past 12 months trying to learn about how we can maybe get that done, you’d really be happy. She’s working her tail off.”
