NEWTON, Iowa – In the same, dominant, overwhelming fashion as his last win at the track, Josef Newgarden returned to victory lane at Iowa Speedway on Saturday in the Hy-Vee Homefront 250.
Newgarden took the lead from teammate Will Power and ran away with the race, leading every lap the rest of the way aside from a green flag pit cycle.
“I was really — I’ve done that a lot here,” Newgarden said. “I’ve not qualified where I think we should. That exact problem was sort of the same in the beginning of the race. We were trying to counteract it and didn’t quite get there. It took about a stint, stint and a half, to really get the car where it needed to be.”
The win gave Newgarden a 28-point jump on leader Alex Palou, but the Chip Ganassi driver still holds a 98-point lead on Newgarden and the rest of the field.
The series returns to the track Sunday (1 p.m. CT NBC) for the weekend finale, with a pre-race concert set for Zac Brown Band and a postrace concert from Ed Sheeran.
