In his first year of owning a team, against the odds of a two-round points deficit coming into the weekend, Ron Capps found his way to another big trophy.
For the second straight season and third time of his NHRA Funny Car career, Capps is taking home the world championship in the fastest sport on the planet.
All Capps needed to do once the bracket was set was to win his way through the final round on Sunday, but he caught a break when Robert Hight went out in the quarterfinals.
Capps won his semifinal race and narrowly missed the event victory in a quick race to the line against Cruz Pedragon, but clinched the championship in the most improbable ways.
Over the year, Capps collected five wins, six No. 1 seeds and eight total trips to the final round during the season.
Congratulations to Ron Capps and the entire Ron Capps Motorsports team on its championship winning season.
