For the second race in a row, Bobby Pierce stood on the top of his No. 32 car, celebrating a World of Outlaws win at a track he had never before even visited.

The Oakwood, Illinois native was given the lead in the back half of the race at the World of Outlaws Mason City Showdown, after Tanner English suffered a flat, right rear tire sending him to the back of the pack.

“It feels awesome to win two nights in a row,” Pierce said. “We’re on a really good streak. We’ve got five wins in six races, and we’ll see if we can keep it up. Going to all of these tracks I’ve never been to before is very interesting, it’s a challenge.”

Pierce’s run as of late started when he returned to the DIRTCar Summer Nationals tour and claimed a pair of victories with the series two weeks ago.

When looking at the month at large, it’s rare to find a moment where Pierce was running outside of the top five during an A-Main, let alone a podium position.

The stretch has mainly came due to his team hitting on setups and Pierce finding track position as the night goes on, but it’s also delivered him the points lead going into the final three nights of racing through the Midwest.

“Tonight rubbered up,” Pierce said. “It is what is. We qualified well early, heat raced well and got the heat race win and that’s what it takes. You’ve got to start up front. Tonight we got lucky with the re-draw, we drew the pole, and Tanner (English) got the lead on me there, but he got that flat tire. So, we’ll take it. It feels great to have the points lead now. It’s an added challenge when you look at it at the end of the day, but it’s fun to get the job done.”

The track took rubber a bit before the halfway mark of the A-Main, despite the efforts of Mason City Motor Speedway’s crew.

Gordy Gundaker said that the track moved it’s tractor tires out before the race, in what he guesses was an attempt to keep the track from taking rubber, however, they were unsuccessful.

Gundaker recapped his night and the rest of his season here:

The series returns to the track on Wednesday, June 28 as teams make the five and half hour trek North overnight to race at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, North Dakota for the Titan Machinery Showdown. All of the action can be seen live on DirtVision.
