The Brad Doty Classic has never paid the same amount of money as crown jewels in sprint car racing do, but that hasn’t stopped it from growing into one of the most prestigious races on the 90-event schedule.

The reasoning can be found behind the race’s namesake in Brad Doty, a sprint car driver who was involved in a paralyzing accident in 1988.

Despite this, Doty is still as involved as anyone in sprint car racing and can often be seen on his scooter, driving around the grounds at big races like the Knoxville Nationals and Kings Royal – which will be held Saturday.

‘The Doty’ preludes the four-day stretch at Eldora, which features Thursday’s Historical Big 1 ($100,000-to-win) and Saturday’s Kings Royal ($175,000-to-win).

Attica Raceway Park hasn’t always hosted the race. It started in 1989 as a benefit race for Doty and his family at Limaland. A year later it was renamed and served as the track’s biggest race of the year until the last decade. Now, it’s Attica’s.

Spencer Bayston serves as the race’s defending champion while Kyle Larson captured a win at the track earlier in the series’ other trip to the track in the 2022 season.

Hot laps for the 2022 edition of the Brad Doty Classic kick off at 5:00 p.m. CT and the racing can be seen on the live broadcast on DirtVision, like every World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event.
