Brandon Overton started the 2023 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series season out with a victory in Night 1 of the Super Bowl of Racing.
Starting on the pole, Overton led flag-to-flag, staying out front in all 40 laps of the Super Clean Super Bowl of Racing Thursday night preliminary A-Main.
“When you’re out front, you’re just a sitting duck,” Overton said on FloRacing. “You don’t know where to go, but you’re just relying on your pit crew… Everybody that’s been a part of working on this car in the shop – they’ve built a badass race car.”
The victory is Overton’s 14th career win against the Lucas Dirt Series.
It’s expected that Overton will run an open schedule in 2023, but with how well he fairs at Eldora – the home of the tour’s finale, winner-take-all event – a good start to the points could pay major dividends and convince the team to run the full thing.
“I just hope the fans enjoyed it. I love coming back here and racing against my friends in Georgia… Everything went our way (tonight), we got out front and could lead and stay away from lapped traffic.”
Tim McCreadie took the second position on the podium and Iowa native Ricky Thornton Jr. rounded out the top three spots.
The action continues for the 2023 season with Night 2 of the Super Bowl of Racing set to kick off at 5:00 p.m. CT on FloRacing on Friday night.
