Announced just after noon on Thursday, Bobby Pierce has been disqualified for the evening’s 51st running of the World 100.
The disqualification is due to “an apparent altercation between on of Pierce’s crew members and a track worker according to general manager Roger Slack.”
Pierce, a winner of the World 100 in 2016 exited Wednesday night with a third-place showing in event points and was set to start fifth in his heat race for the $54,000-to-win World 100 on Thursday night.
The disqualification prevents Pierce from racing on Thursday, however he will be allowed to return for both Friday and Saturday’s shows.
Bobby Pierce released a statement over Facebook regarding the disqualification.
“Want to inform my fans that we are not racing tonight due to an incident with a singular crew guy disobeying the Eldora speedway four wheeler rules / other rules late last night after racing events concluded. Even though the rest of the team including myself were asleep, I understand, as the driver I am responsible for my crew. Thankful we are able to race tomorrow, but I want to apologize for any disturbance caused to Eldora speedway staff & apologies to all the fans that wanted to see us race in the biggest race of the year.
With the invert being a 5, I would have started 5th in my heat race I believe.
Good luck to all the other competitors.
There will be no other public statements made about the situation.”
Hot laps are scheduled to begin on FloRacing at 6:00 p.m. CT.
