Four years ago on June 24, the sprint car community lost one of its most valued racers in Jason Johnson.

On June 24, 2022, though, the Jason Johnson Racing No. 41 again found its way to victory lane, this time piloted by one Carson Macedo.

“I think I had a co-pilot there,” Macedo said on DirtVision. “Four years ago, today, we lost Jason Johnson. It’s pretty incredible to win on that day. He was a pretty incredible human being to start this incredible race team with such good people. It’s quite a deal. The fact that now, Phillip Dietz and Brooke are carrying on that legacy with the World of Outlaws tour with incredible sponsors like we have is pretty special.”

The win is Macedo’s sixth of the season and brings his team to 12 points from the lead in the World of Outlaws standings.

The No. 41 driver started fifth on the night and had to first take down David Gravel in a battle for position early on.

That was until Brad Sweet flipped his No. 49 car and brought out a caution with 25 laps to go, leaving Macedo in third.

Macedo reset and started his chase to the front. He got passed Riley Goodno, a Knoxville regular that started the race from the pole, when Goodno went to the low line to try an upset pass on Brian Brown.

After that, it was a chase for Jason.

“I didn’t know if I was good enough in the early stages of the race, but some things went my way,” Macedo said. “Once I got behind Brown, I actually started hustling extremely hard — driving probably past what was comfortable. I started getting tighter, but was able to calm down and throw a slider and get by him for the win here.”

The series returns to the track for a show-up points event Saturday, being the finale of the Huset’s High Bank Nationals. World of Outlaws points and results can be seen below, and the lineups for the $100,000-to-win qualifying races will be posted later tonight.
