C.J. Leary delivered the first USAC National tour victory for his team on Saturday at BAPS Motor Speedway, and he did it in dominant fashion.
The Greenfield, Indiana native picked up his first win of the season by leading all 30 laps of the feature event at the Pennsylvania track on Saturday.
“Man, I want to thank Bill Michael and Kodiak Products,” Leary said in victory lane on the FloRacing broadcast. “It’s been a work in progress, we’re making strides on it for sure. Tonight, all the pieces came together and we learned some stuff.”
Leary has been picking up better and better finishes each night since the tour began its weekend in Pennsylvania.
He kicked it off with a P6 run on Thursday at Grandview and added a fourth-place finish on Friday night.
After the race at BAPS, hell go into Sunday night’s Keystone Invasion finale with four top 5’s in the first eight features of the year.
He’s done a lot of the work himself, too.
“Its tough being the crew chief, the driver, the truck driver – it’s a little bit of everything,” Leary said. “Making the right calls, the ball’s in my court the whole team. If I make a mistake, I don’t have anybody to lean on.”
Leary will lead the field into Path Valley on Sunday for the finale of the Pennsylvania swing, and he’ll do so trying for his second win in a row in the No. 77M.
