David Gravel’s car has dawned the colors and signage of Huset’s Speedway all season while on the World of Outlaws Sprint Car tour.
On Sunday, though, the veteran driver made his first start of the year at the track for their weekly show ahead of the World of Outlaws’ big week there set for later this month.
He didn’t disappoint.
“It was an amazing weekend for our team,” Gravel said. “We’ve been on our game every time we hit the race track. It’s really cool what Tod is doing in sprint car racing. Hopefully The Showdown is great here in a couple of weeks.”
Gravel took down Shane Golobic to take his first win of his career at the track.
The experience will come in handy for the Monday-Tuesday doubleheader the Outlaws will run at Huset’s along with an extra night of racing slated for the night before.
“David is really good,” Golobic said. “He’s one of the best in the world. I just made a wrong decision on the backstretch. That killed my run and David was there to capitalize. I knew traffic was going to be tough. It’s one of those deals I made a bad decision and paid the price for it.”
Austin McCarl rounded out the podium for the night.
Huset’s Speedway will host one more night of weekly racing before The Showdown week follows the Sunday, June 20 date.
