MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – There weren’t two better drivers to be up front in the closing laps on Tuesday than Hudson O’Neal and Bobby Pierce at Davenport Speedway.
The pair of drivers ran to the top of the race track in the corners, at time with a fraction of inch of space to make it through cleanly, in what ended as another O’Neal victory this year at the FloRacing Night in America race.
“It’s been good,” O’Neal said. “We just try to do the best we can, and we’ve been fortunate enough to have a lot of good runs here recently, so we’re just trying to take advantage of them. When the ball rolls your way, you’ve just got to try and stay on top of it the best you can.”
O’Neal has secured a spot at the top of late model racing as far as the front end of the 2023 season is concerned.
He hopes that the recent string of results as well as his comfortability will allow him to take the next step during the major events of the year.
“I hope so,” O’Neal said. “We’re just going to do our best. I think that the package that we’ve been building and the comfortability behind the wheel, hopefully, will translate to these bigger shows at these bigger race tracks.”
Pierce, who ran second to O’Neal on Tuesday, moved up to third in the point standings with another podium result.
“It’s really nice with all of the big money on the line,” Pierce said prior to the race on his momentum going into the week.
The series returns to the track Wednesday at Davenport Speedway for the fifth race of 13 scheduled with the tour.
