After grabbing the lead away early in the run, Kyle Larson dominated the rest of the night to win his first High Limit Series race at Wayne County.
Larson took the lead and ran away even with a few cautions thrown in there. A few crashes slowed the pace that Larson had set. However, that didn’t bother him or the Silva No. 57. Each restart Larson got better and better despite him not thinking so.
“Honestly, I was a bit nervous on the launch. I felt like I would spin all the way down the front stretch. But i could rip through one and two and down the back stretch okay,” Larson said on FloRacing after the win. “Just a great car, we’re always really good here at Wayne County. These types of tracks really suit the 57, the elbows up type of places. Hats off to Paul and Trevor.”
Chase Randall led the field to green and after running up front early on, Larson would track him down and challenge the young Randall. Instead of getting into lap traffic, Randall hit the berm in turns one and two allowing Larson by down the back stretch.
Once Larson got out front he never looked back. A restart with 23 laps to go didn’t slow him down as he rocketed back past Randall. Another slip by Randall allowed the likes of Justin Sanders and Sheldon Haudenschild into the mix.
Haudenschild was the promoter of this event, the Buckeye Brawl. In front of his home crowd, Haudenschild started to find his own line. This line led him all the way to the second place position before clipping the berm in turn two slowing him. A bad restart and another trip into the berm saw Sheldon slide back.
Sanders would end up second at the end of the night. He was the second best car behind Larson throughout the main event.
A man on the move all night was Brian Brown. Starting in the 25th spot, Brown worked through traffic and using the cautions to find himself in a battle for the podium spots. Having to use a provisional to even get in the show, Brown made the most of it. If not for a last second pass, Brown would have taken third on the night. He was the hard charger of the evening.
Justin Peck was the man who clipped Brown at the line. peck made a hard charge himself as he went from 12th to 3rd during the A-main.
All of this happened behind Larson who never really got challenged all night. When there was a little gap closed by Sanders a caution would fly or someone from the third spot would challenge Sanders slowing his progress.
Larson jumps into the High Limit Series point lead after cashing just over $32,000 on Tuesday night at Wayne County in Ohio.
