It took Justin Grant 23 races behind the wheel to capture a USAC Midget win in 2021. Through a pair of races that marked the start of the 2022 season in the series, he’s got two already.
The driver of the RMS Racing NOS Energy No. 2J is red hot early on in the tour’s season, capturing a weekend sweep to open the year off on a high note.
Early on in the feature, Jade Avedisian got by Grant on a start and actually held the race lead halfway through.
Before doing his victory lane interview, Grant actually jogged over to shake Avedisian’s hand in a sign of respect to the young, up-and-coming racer.
Grant’s teammate, Thomas Meseraull, took a gruesome flip that set up a restart with six laps to go.
Defending series champion Buddy Kofoid took off next to Grant, but couldn’t manage to pass the NOS Energy Drink car, ending the race in the runner-up spot.
Kofoid and Grant will each compete in next week’s USAC Non-Wing Sprint Car Series events at the same race track, however the national midget tour won’t return for a month, picking things up in March in an indoor race in Southern Illinois. The event will not be worth points, but the series will race again for spots in the standings at Kokomo in April.
