During the opening months of the 2023 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series season, Kasey Kahne and his KKR No. 9 crew made the decision to drop off of the nationwide tour and take some time away from the track to regroup.
In his second night back in a sprint car, Kahne did something he hasn’t done in competitive racing in a while – making the drive into victory lane at Huset’s Speedway’s weekly race.
Kahne started on the front row, and had to get by Ryan Timms, who had multiple wins at the track last season, to make the victory happen.
He executed maybe as well as ever, taking the top spot as the field came around turns 3 and 4 to take the white flag.
The win is Kahne’s first at Huset’s since the 1999 season, when he was still soaring up the ranks of motorsports.
He and the rest of the field will have another shot at a victory on Monday with the second night of the Memorial Day weekend doubleheader taking place again at Huset’s Speedway.
