The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series race along with the USAC Non-Wing events scheduled for this weekend at Eldora Speedway have officially been canceled due to rain.

The track opted to cancel the event ahead of time to try and save teams money on travel costs.

“Based on all the information we have gathered today, including current extreme saturation on the track and negative forecasts from our all of weather consultant resources, we made this difficult decision to cancel,” Eldora Speedway general manager Jerry Gappens said in a press release. “Hopefully, this early notice will help fans, teams, officials, and vendors reduce unnecessary travel costs.”

Eldora has received two inches of rain since Sunday and expects another two inches this weekend.

The World of Outlaws sprint cars will return to the track on Wednesday, May 11 for the Gettysburg Clash at Lincoln Speedway, kicking off three nights of racing in Pennsylvania.

As for the USAC non-wing sprint cars, the series will be back Friday, May 13 for a race night at U.S. 36 Raceway.
