TULSA, Oklahoma – Logan Seavey waited things out on Friday in the final Chili Bowl Nationals preliminary night A-Main of the event.
Ryan Timms had led the initial 28 laps of the race, but the defending Chili Bowl champion had something more in the tank.
“You never know, I had a few shots there early, but just kept getting yellow’s,” Seavey said. “You never really know if you’re going to get a good run, or if (race leader Ryan Timms) is going to make his car better, or what not. He was just getting tight and biking a bunch. Sometimes that helps you get closer, but if you’re too close when they bike, you have to lift with them.”
Seavey spent the first portion of the race mired by cautions, trying to pass cars after starting the race P7.
Each time the yellow lights came on around the race track gave Seavey just a little bit more motivation, ultimately building up to the pass that won him the race in the waning moments.
Seavey went on to celebrate with his Swindell Speed Lab team, and spoke here about the unique relationship the group has.
“It was pretty treacherous,” Seavey said of the race track, which took some time to develop over the course of the night. “We could have done without a few of them yellows.”
While Timms didn’t bring home the victory, the 17-year old up and comer learned from his battle with Seavey and overall night, which saw him as the top points earner going into the main event.
Driller contender Justin Grant did not finish the race after a crash with five laps to go ended his night.
