Kerry Madsen set the sprint car world on fire during this weekend’s racing in Minnesota.

After sweeping both of the prelim nights and knocking the gigantic monkey off of his back, Madsen had solidified himself as the favorite to win the Jackson Nationals on Sunday.

Although he didn’t take the victory, the 49-year old might have raced his way into the big money shows across the rest of the summer.

“The track was a lot heavier from the rain,” Madsen said. “I thought we should have went a little different direction, but we were so good we figured that the track might come to us. I probably should have drove better too.”

Madsen was disappointed he didn’t get the win, but happy with another top 5 for the No. 14 Tony Stewart Racing team. It’s his ninth top 5 finish in the past 10 races.

But Madsen could have a bit more to smile about in the near future.

According to the Australia native it is likely that Madsen will be behind the wheel during the Kings Royals at Eldora in July and the Knoxville Nationals as well in August.

“It’s unbelievable,” Madsen said. “I have to pinch myself like its a dream. Now we’ll try to get ourselves some more wins.”

What will happen next is anyone’s guess, but for right now, Kerry Madsen has a ride in a top tier sprint car and things are clicking well. That should be something that competitors pay attention to.
