Year No. 1 of the Kyle Larson Late Model Challenge provided a solid crowd to support the concept and race thought up by the defending NASCAR Cup Series champion, pilot of the Kevin Rumley No. 6 late model and driver of the No. 57 sprint car.
Although he didn’t make the trip to victory lane, Larson’s race was a success and a 57 landed in victory lane – it just had a one in front of it.
Mike Marlar became the first winner of the race after leading from green-to-checkered in the 50-lap A-Main on Thursday night.
Larson’s goals for the race include growing the event into what the Prelude to the Dream used to be at Eldora.
William Byron was the lone active NASCAR Cup Series driver in the race, competing in his first event against professional drivers in the vehicle – an ambitious goal with some of the names in the field.
Byron spun on multiple occasions, but never altered the results of the race as a lapped car.
