It was a far from perfect night for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on Sunday, but Sheldon Haudenschild won’t coming out of it with a W.
The series raced at Black Hills Speedway on Sunday for the Rushmore Outlaw Showdown, where it featured a plethora of shredded tires, a junked up No. 9 James McFadden KKR car, and enough cautions to make someone hate the color yellow.
At the end of the day, however, Haudenschild did his wing dance and celebrated his eighth World of Outlaws win of the 2021 season.
“For sure, we had a couple of 2nd’s in a row there,” Haudenschild said on DirtVision. “To finish the week off with a win is great. I can’t give it up enough to Ripper and the (rest of the crew).”
Haudenschild was able to avoid whatever it was in turns 3 and 4 that cut the tires of Brad Sweet and Carson Macedo twice on Sunday.
That doesn’t even include the wicked flip that James McFadden saw on the same side of the track.
“I feel like I kept it down to the clean part of the track,” Haudenschild said. “I just kind of tried to cool it there and run the clean part. I was sputtering (on fuel) there at the end and I’m just happy to finish.”
Donny Schatz continued his resurgent run in the back half of the season, landing in the runner-up spot on the podium.
David Gravel rounded out the top 3, finishing the final two laps of the race with a hole in his tire.
For World of Outlaws teams, though, they’ll try to reset as they head west to Skagit for the Skagit Nationals, starting this Friday night. As always all of the action can be seen live on DirtVision.com.
