Lynton Jeffrey back in victory lane in Night 2

Lynton Jeffrey back in victory lane in Night 2
Lynton Jeffrey celebrates atop his new No. 83 Pizza Ranch car after winning night two of the 360 Nationals.

The last two times Lynton Jeffrey has hit the race track in a 360 sprint car, he’s come home with wins.

The driver of the No. 83 car – dawning new Pizza Ranch colors – was once again the fastest on the racetrack as the veteran picked up the victory to conclude night two of the 360 Nationals at Knoxville Raceway.

Jeffrey lead every lap of the 20-circuit finale, however he had to hold off a bold charge from Scott Bogucki to hold the lead.

Bogucki lurked behind Jeffrey for a couple laps before throwing a slide job through turns one and two.

Jeffrey got around him, but it wasn’t for the lack of effort for Bogucki.

“I didn’t really know,” Jeffrey said. “I was just concentrating out front. I guess he got a couple runs on me. I was just being a little cautious in lapped traffic.”

If it wasn’t for a late race caution, Bogucki would have been standing on the podium at the end of the night.

However, the yellow flag brought a green-white-checkered finish with it, giving Sawyer Phillips a pair of laps to make his mark.

“We had this car rolling,” Phillips said. “It felt good to get some clean laps there. We didn’t have anything for Lynton, but I think we could have stayed ahead of Brown if the right rear didn’t go down under the caution. Hopefully, we’ll be locked in for (Saturday).”

Phillips in his second full year of racing in the 410 class at Knoxville and was thankful to return to his 360 seat for the weekend.

“We were fast in the 360 before we came up to the 410, so it’s nice to get back to that,” Phillips said.

If it weren’t for a last lap run by Brian Brown, Phillips would have secured a second-place finish.

Of course, for him, there’s nothing wrong with third.

“Sawyer did a good job,” Brown said of Phillips. “I’ve known him for a long time. These young guys are getting smarter and smarter. He’s using the right lines and it’s difficult to get by sometimes. He did a phenomenal job. Scott did a good job too; I just got a good run off of two.”

The final night of the 360 Nationals will kick off on Saturday at 6:45 p.m. CT.
