Ian Madsen to drive 2KS for rest of Knoxville season

The No. 2KS car owned by Tony Renfro has officially named its newest driver.

Ian Madsen, who drove the car to a P17 finish in Saturday night’s A-Main has been announced as the official driver for the team, which parted ways with Ryan Giles midway through the season.

Madsen, an Australian native, is no stranger to Knoxville Raceway. Him and his brother, Kerry, each have long histories at the track. It’s also been wondered where Ian would end up, since returning from a stint of racing in his home country.

The team will travel to Donnellson, Iowa on Thursday to get more laps with Madsen in the car at the 410 POWRi sprint car race at Lee County Speedway.

“We’re excited to get to Donnellson on Thursday before throwing our hat into the ring again at Knoxville on Saturday,” Renfro, owner of the TKS Motorsports, Albaugh LLC, Iowa Barnstormers, deWit Construction, No. 2KS sprint car, said in a release. “This is a good opportunity for his team to build some positive momentum for the back half of the season. The Knoxville Nationals will be here before we know it.”

Madsen’s next start with the 2KS car comes on Saturday, July 9 in Knoxville Weekly action. Hot laps are set for 6:45 p.m. CT and the race will be broadcasted on DirtVision.
