There’s a new leader in the USAC Non-Wing Sprint Car Series points standings, and it comes in a driver & team pairing that’s heated up as much as the weather has this summer.
After an upset win at Knoxville Raceway two weekends ago, 21AZ Racing’s Jake Swanson brought his team back to victory lane for the second race in a row, winning Tuesday’s Jesse Hockett Classic at Grandview Speedway.
“Really, it’s not much different,” Swanson said of his team. “Everything’s just been fine tuned and massaged on to what it is now. I could sure get used to this, it’s pretty unreal. I don’t even know what to say. I’m so pumped to be winning USAC National Sprint Car races. It’s been a long time coming.”
Swanson has been a longtime non-wing driver, but hadn’t seen the success he’s had this year on a national scale.
His four race wins lead the series to date.
“We’ve worked really hard for this, and it feels good to be able to go – what feels like right now – anywhere and be in the hunt,” Swanson said on the FloRacing broadcast. “We do our jobs, everyone pulls together and does a great job, so that we’re always going to be there and in position.”
Swanson captured the win after starting on the pole, leading the entirety of the 40-lap A-Main by running the cushion most of the race.
Emerson Axsom had the best shot to take at Swanson, but couldn’t quite get close enough late on the low line of the track.
The series returns to action Wednesday with the second race on the Eastern Storm mini-series schedule set to go at Bridgeport Motorsports Park. As always, all of the action can be seen live on FloRacing.
