Noah Gragson has been suspended by his NASCAR Cup team Legacy Motor Club effective immediately, the team announced Saturday morning. The suspension comes off the heels of attention to a meme that Gragson had liked on social media.

The team announced that Josh Berry will replace Gragson for the weekend, beginning with practice. They posted their full statement on social media:

Shortly after Legacy Motor Club, which is co-owned by Jimmie Johnson, announced the suspension NASCAR made a statement as well. They agreed with the decision by the team, and followed with the news that Gragson had been suspended via NASCAR indefinitely.

While no timeline is set for Gragson to be eligible to compete in NASCAR again, typically there are guidelines laid out for what needs to happen in order to be reinstated. The guidelines for this situation were not publicly stated.

Gragson, a rookie in the series, currently sits 33rd in the standings after a rough year that included him missing a race for concussion protocol. His best finish of the year is 12th back in March at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Gragson responded to the teams statement with his comments, saying he “messed up plain and simple”.

Berry currently competes full-time in the Xfinity Series with JR Motorsports, a fellow Chevrolet team. Despite Berry announcing earlier this year he will be moving to drive a Ford for Stewart-Haas Racing in 2024, the decision was likely allowed because Legacy Motor Club will be moving from Chevy to Toyota after the season.
