Despite rumors that insinuated IndyCar and NBC might be ending its long time partnership with the conclusion of the 2021 season, the series announced today something in a complete different direction.
Not only will NBC remain the exclusive broadcast home for IndyCar, but the company is slated to host 13 of the 2022 NTT IndyCar Series races nationally on NBC.
The remainder of the races, according to IndyCar, will be broadcasted on USA Network and all races can be streamed through Peacock.
Two races will be streamed only through Peacock, so the breakdown would be 13 NBC races, two on Peacock, and the rest on USA Network.
The deal was also announced to be a multi-year extension to a contract that has paced IndyCar since 2009.
“NBC Sports is proud to extend its partnership with the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and continue to serve as the exclusive home of the most competitive open-wheel racing series in the world and ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,’” NBC Sports’ Jon Miller said. “We have demonstrated NBCUniversal’s ability to make big events bigger with our presentations of the Indianapolis 500, we have worked closely with Roger Penske, Mark Miles and the entire team to expand INDYCAR’s reach across the U.S, and we are thrilled to build upon our collaborative successes of the past few years.”
The series will pick up where it left off on summer break as we get back to asphalt racing following the olympic break with the Streets of Nashville, starting at 4:30 p.m. CT on NBCSN.
