I-80 Speedway responds to article saying track will be sold

Fresh off a weekend that saw packed stands and $53,000 awarded to the winner at I-80 Speedway, the Lincoln Journal Star reported that the track was going to be put up for sale and sold following the conclusion of the 2022 racing season.

The article, which can be seen here, stated that track owner Joe Kosiski was planning on retiring and the track wouldn’t be in operation past next season.

However, I-80 Speedway has since responded on Facebook, refuting the information in the report.

The full statement can be seen below:

“Wow way too add your own words there @journal star!! The only quote by Joe which is the same quote he has given at many pit meetings is that there are people interested but nothing is complete. Don’t you think if the track was officially closing after 2022 we would have announced it OURSELVES last night with our grandstands packed??? Instead some dumbass journalist ease dropped on a personal conversation joe was having with his friend about wanting to spend time with his family in his old age and spun the words to his liking to be the “first to report” we can’t even get the journal star to cover our events why in the hell would we give them this??? IF AND WHEN THE TRACK SELLS AND THE FINAL RACE IS SET YOU WILL HEAR IT HERE FIRST!”

Regardless of what gets put out there, it’s clear that I-80 Speedway wants to announce it themselves, but we could be seeing our last events on one of the most kickass race tracks in the Midwest.
