Jonathan Davenport took the lead from Ricky Weiss in the waning moments of Friday night’s World of Outlaws Late Model race at Bristol Motor Speedway.

But a lot of the crowd was rooting on a charging, red-and-black No. 6 car that came from 21st and made it to the bumper of Davenport’s No. 49 as the white flag was flying.

Davenport entered turns one and two. Kyle Larson was using the high line that got him into the race again. He looked to have the momentum to pass Davenport, but then it went away.

Larson’s right-rear tire was shredded and his run to the front turned into an eighth-place finish.

Davenport took to the backstretch with no pressure behind him, winning the late model A-Main for the night at The Last Great Colosseum.

“Y’all put (Larson) in the back, I thought we wouldn’t have to worry about him,'” Davenport said jokingly, after the race. “He must have done a hell of a job. I thought I saw my spotter pointing up, but you never really know what you see. I just tried to stay as wide as I could the last few laps.”

Mission accomplished for the No. 49 and he’ll be back to try for a sweep tomorrow night.

The World of Outlaws Late Model Series will return to the track Saturday and the action is slated to kick off on DirtVision.
