Ryan Timms has made a blistering pass through the dirt track ranks so far in 2021, but he took it a step further on Thursday night at Placerville.
The 15-year old utilized a front row starting position at the California track to take home his first career USAC National Midget race win.
The win also makes Timms the youngest winner in USAC History at 15 years, 3 months, and 11 days old. The mark was set earlier this summer by Corey Day when he won with the tour in June at 15 years and six months.
“It’s just really unexpected,” Timms said on the FloRacing broadcast. “I have a really fast car. I just want to thank Chad Boat and all the other (guys and sponsors).”
The win puts him at the top of the Hangtown 100 race weekend points and comes ahead of two more nights at the same track to see if Timms can park it once more.
Timms dominated the entirety of the 30-lap race, taking the lead early on and never looking back.
“Yeah, there was a bunch of lapped traffic, so I figured I’d see (Cannon McIntosh),” Timms said. “I just never saw his nose and we got it done.”
Behind the front of the pack, the points lead for the USAC Midget championship changed hands once again.
Chris Windom crossed the finish line in seventh at the Hangtown while Buddy Kofoid didn’t have the time to charge anywhere higher than the P14 he rolled through.
Windom now retakes the lead in points with five races remaining on the USAC Midget schedule, sitting 13 marks above the young gun KKM driver.
Nights 2 and 3 of the Hangtown 100 take place on Friday and Saturday and can be seen live on FloRacing.
