TULSA, Oklahoma – Logan Seavey was passed by Buddy Kofoid in the opening four laps of his second straight Chili Bowl Nationals championship.
He got the spot back thanks to a timely caution, and never saw a challenge after the track took rubber in the middle of the 55-lap A-Main.
“I really hate that both of them came in the rubber,” Seavey said of his pair of Golden Driller trophies that Chili Bowl winners receive. “I’d like to race for one. In a few years, people will forget about it and see my name on the banner… This is coolest race I get to compete in.”
Meanwhile, Buddy Kofoid – and Seavey for that matter – believed that officials missed the call.
“I passed him and in my mind, I completed a lap, and came around a second time and then the caution came out. “It seemed like I at least completed a full lap. I knew it wasn’t over yet, there was still 51 laps… I was kind of biding my time, waiting for an opening (to make a move on Seavey) and then it never came.”
