Ryan Timms steals Indiana Midget Week opener at Lawrenceburg

By Dawson Elliott

With what was supposed to be Round One of Indiana Midget Week being canceled due to
weather last night at Circle City. The USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midgets shifted to
Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

Weather once again was the name of the game as USAC officials and drivers rushed to beat the
incoming cold front bringing more rain to the region and man was it worth it.

The Feature would begin to get pushed off at 7:42 PM Eastern and for the next 20 minutes, a 30
laps thrill show on the high banks of Lawrenceburg would commence.

Emerson Axsom would lead the opening lap before Logan Seavey threw a slider to take the lead
on Lap 5. The first stoppage of the night would occur when Adam Bolyard lost a wheel and
tipped over; he was uninjured.

The Lap 5 restart would find Axsom back in the lead after firing a slider on Seavey. Axsom
would try to run away with the lead but Seavey was strong in the Abacus Racing #57. Seavey
would throw another slider and retake the lead on Lap 11.

“It’s tough to be in the lead, I feel like everytime I run with Keith (Kunz) we are in the lead and
then something changes with the track or something happens and I can’t catch on soon enough.”
Axsom said on his battle for the lead.

Another stoppage meant another restart and Axsom was able to pounce and retake the lead on lap
12 from Logan Seavey.

Daison Pursley was the next to challenge Emerson Axsom for the lead as he worked his way past
Seavey, who suffered mechanical issues, and had to pull off in a heartbreaking set of
circumstances.

Pursley took the lead on Lap #23 before another caution for a shredded right rear tire on Kevin
Thomas JR. But then came another challenger from the 12th starting position, Ryan Timms.

Timms had worked his way into the top five before Logan Seavey suffered mechanical issues
and put the Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports #67 into the top three with just 8 to go.

Ryan Timms would put the #67 on the cushion and storm by Daison Pursley with three to go.

“Lawrenceburg was very interesting tonight, to say the least. It built a curb pretty low down the
track to start off. I don’t remember running the bottom around Lawrenceburg,” Pursley said
about the changing track surface. “I got the lead on that restart and felt like I was good enough to
pace around the bottom and not get slid. Then I heard Ryan (Timms) a couple times and made a
mistake off of four and allowed Ryan to close in.”

Ryan Timms would pull away in the final three laps and win Round One of Indiana Midget
Week with the USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship.

“If you would have told me on Lap #10 I would be standing here, I would have never believed
you. There really wasn’t much of a curb entering one, if you could just enter around the fluff it
would hold you. It was really fast to do that,” Timms said on his unique line around
Lawrenceburg.

Tonight was also a big win for Keith Kunz Motorsports and Curb-Agajanian as this was win No.
200 for car entrant Mike Curb.

“I had no idea that was a thing going into tonight, now that I know that it is pretty awesome. Not
many people get the chance to run for this amazing team and for me to be able to get that
opportunity is pretty awesome,” Timms said.
