In the first of three NASCAR sanctioned races at Pocono Raceway today, Brandon Jones came out on top winning his first career NASCAR Truck Series event.

The Atlanta, Georgia native is the owner of two NASCAR Xfinity Series races, but had not yet earned a victory in the trucks.

Jones started out the final two-lap run to the checkered flag by giving up the lead to Sheldon Creed, but he got it back by using the horsepower of the Kyle Busch Motorsports No. 51 car.

He simply had more speed coming out of the corners.

The race itself was filled with accidents and wrecked race trucks. It tied the record at Pocono for caution flags in a truck race, as viewers on television saw nine breaks in the action.

With only 60 laps scheduled for the race, that didn’t leave a lot of room for any green flag strategies.

The longest stretch of the race on green flag laps was six at a time, and that only happened once.

Nonetheless, Jones was able to get the victory and for how messed up that race was, no truck series regular had to be worried about the playoff cutoff moving up a spot.

The NASCAR Truck Series will return to the track on Saturday, July 11 at Kentucky Speedway for the Buckle Up Your Truck 225.

Sunday’s tripleheader will continue at Pocono Raceway at 11:30 a.m. CT on Fox Sports 1 with the NASCAR Xfinity Series race from the Tricky Triangle.
